Rooster and Tree

The tree of life and the rooster are the most common figures in northern embroidery. They are laid out in three panels, with empty ground between them.

Ornament was never decoration — it is the language once spoken by shawls, towels and window frames. The series gathers it from Pavlovo Posad roses to cross-stitch and hangs it on the wall without the object it used to live on.
