Golden Herbs

Gold is laid in leaf over a black ground, the way lacquer trays were made. The stems are drawn with a fine brush, the border built separately.

Ornament was never decoration — it is the language once spoken by shawls, towels and window frames. The series gathers it from Pavlovo Posad roses to cross-stitch and hangs it on the wall without the object it used to live on.
