Athonian Theotokos

The image of the Theotokos is rendered in three‑dimensional relief, with expressive brushstroke texture and the addition of gold leaf. The work serves as an accent, drawing attention to the central zone of the wall.

One image — Mother and Child — in dozens of states: from the Vladimir icon to a dark face in rays of gold leaf and an almost abstract mark on blue. The series rests on the face: however little of the icon is left, it still looks at you.
