Horse in Flowers

The Dymkovo toy is modeled in clay and whitened with chalk, the painting laid over it. Here it is raised into relief: the mane built separately, the flowers drawn in gold leaf.

A palm-sized toy raised to a metre and built in relief: mane, harness, dot by dot. The horse and the lady once shaped from clay and whitened with chalk now stand on gold — as what they always were: small household icons.
