Black Madonna

The work combines relief and hand painting. The Madonna with infant is rendered in dark tones with gold halos, set against a bright orange circle featuring two eyes. The panel creates an accent in the space, drawing attention through the contrast of narratives and colour choices.

A red circle and inside it a black figure with a gold face — an image reduced to a sign that reads across the whole room. Sometimes only the eyes of the Virgin remain, and that is enough.
