Cross-Sections

A cross-section shows age: one ring per year. Assembled into a grid and cast in resin — you can count them, but you need not.

Birch bark peels away in layers every few years, and its pattern never repeats. This series assembles it into a grid with graphite leaves and carries it through to a rhythm of verticals. Some fragments are left without pigment.
