Trunks

The bark is peeled in sheets and set vertically, like a palisade. The edges are left ragged, just as they came away from the trunk.

Birch bark peels away in layers every few years, and its pattern never repeats. This series assembles it into a grid with graphite leaves and carries it through to a rhythm of verticals. Some fragments are left without pigment.
