Essay
Moscow has an hour when it is at its best: the lamps are already lit and the sky still holds light. In that hour the Spasskaya Tower, St Basil's and the Stalin-era high-rises stop being a postcard and become weather — dense, dark, dotted with windows. The seven high-rises were begun in a single year, and ever since the city's silhouette has been recognised by them as much as by the Kremlin.
The series takes the city in exactly that hour. The towers show through translucent layers of dark green and claret; the lights are points of gold leaf laid by hand. The Kremlin is red relief, the high-rises a dark silhouette with a golden needle of a spire. Not one detail could be checked against a photograph, and yet it is unmistakably Moscow.
Layered pours of dark pigment, relief on the towers, leaf gold on the lights and spires, epoxy resin that gives the sky the depth of wet asphalt. The edition is numbered.
A series for a study, a meeting room, an apartment with a view of another city. Moscow on the wall is not an address but a state of mind; those who have left take it with them.

Editions
Every edition is closed: once exhausted, no further numbers are issued. Number and tier are recorded in the certificate of authenticity.
