Essay
The Dymkovo toy comes from the settlement of Dymkovo near Vyatka: it was shaped from red clay, whitened with chalk in milk and painted with circles, dots and stripes — green, red, blue, yellow, with flecks of gold leaf. A horse, a lady, a turkey. A toy the size of a palm, holding the whole system of ornament that in other crafts takes metres.
The series raises that palm to a metre. The horse in relief: red with gold, white with dots, its mane built like a comb. Ladies in patterned skirts standing on gold as on an icon board. Dot by dot, circle by circle — a painting that was naive on clay becomes strict on the wall. Horse and lady here are what they always were in the home: small household icons.
Relief on artboard modelled to the volume of the figure; bright pigments on a white ground; leaf gold on the field and in the details of the harness; epoxy resin, which gives the clay the shine of a fired glaze. The edition is numbered.
A series for a nursery, a kitchen, a dining room, a country house. Dymka is the most joyful thing in Russian craft, and on the wall it loses none of that.
The object
Each work is built by hand at the st.Aura studio. The object's data is recorded in the series passport and the studio registry.
Editions
Every edition is closed: once exhausted, no further numbers are issued. Number and tier are recorded in the certificate of authenticity.
